Thu, 4/24 - Sun, 4/27

Thu
  • finished bone collector and watched dreamgirls at work
  • had class 5-7 hours, but my student didn't show
  • signed a lease! it's right across the street from the hs i work at, and not too far from downtown. it's a year lease, so if you know anybody wanting to live in champaign over the summer next year, send them my way. :)
  • went to work
  • so there're two geese that hang out in the parking lot before the pearson building. sometime last week, one of them watched me and flew toward me, but didn't get too far. but on thu, i saw the goose watching me and fly towards me, anticipating where i'd be on my bike. i swerved, hoping it would miss me and hoping that the car behind me was paying attention and could see this goose trying to kill me. it missed and the car slowed down and disaster was averted, but i have to say, that was definitely the scariest moment of my life. i would've fallen for sure if that goose hit me.
  • fell asleep for a split second at work, but long enough for somebody to notice. :( good thing my record and work have been pretty good
  • then i spilled water near lots of computers... missed them, but still... this was easily the most unfortunate 45 min in a long time.
  • got our project reviews at work. i'm recommended for rehire next year! yayyy.
  • passed the next three or so hours w/o incident.
Fri
  • student was "ill." not going to lie, i was definitely disappointed.
  • did some work and went to his math class. it's a self-contained class and i feel rather useful there. went to foods class to work with a student there on a pie-making worksheet. so many of these kids have such a hard time succeeding in a traditional classroom, but with proper support, can do so much more.
  • faxed my lab in for stats. this class is much more expensive than i anticipated.
  • went to an award ceremony/dinner w/ the boy to accept his fantastic teaching assistant award. (i'm sure the word wasn't fantastic, but... get the picture). there were lots of undergrads, happy to be recognized. fewer grad students: in lab, probably, was what the presenter guessed. and only two professors came. it was run rather smoothly, not too many awkward non-applauses. the speakers were pretty sure of what was going on, which was really nice. not all award ceremonies run so smoothly. they had a descriptions of the awards on the screen and the announcer also described the recipient of the award a little as well. lots of very very talented people working on interesting things. for example, there was an entire competition on how to make their building better. and people did lots of things! interactive messsage boards w/ bus schedules and pizza delivery phone numbers. sensors and such to determine which areas of the building are more or less crowded. very specific to the building, but lots of successful projects, it sounded like.
  • hung out for a bit playing ds while the boy worked on a project
Sat
  • went to the gym in the morning for the strength class. told somebody afterward that it would've been nice for the pilates class that got switched to a core yoga class, but earlier, to be at the same time. it's hard to please everybody, i know, but i'm glad that instructor was willing to listen to this feedback. she was actually appreciative to hear it!
  • made chinese porridge w/ the chinese black eggs and tofu w/ pork sung.
  • watched Sweeney Todd
  • grocery shopped for hot pot, pizza, and fried rice
  • played whiffle ball. or, tried, anyhow. i did okay, hitting and pitching-wise.
  • made hot pot for dinner!
Sun
  • got up early-ish to do laundry, but then went back to bed
  • made pizza for lunch
  • did laundry and watched 30 rock. if you haven't seen it, give it a try. i like it a lot. tracy irritates me a little, but i really like tina fey and jane krakowski (spl??)
  • the boy made green onion panakes for dinner! it was really yummy, and i don't always like them, so good for him!
  • went to rehearsal. told them i can't go to ireland. i'd really love to, but scheduling and money sort of got in the way
at some point in time, i finished my crocheted bag! i'm a fan and maybe i'll make another one. or something else, maybe.
